God of War introduced an epicly dark character that was trying to escape from the sorrows of his life. Though there was a couple questionable level design issues (Hades), overall it was quite the excellent game. The sequel, however, felt like it presented its best in the first level and failed to live up to the scale of the first game. The bosses were less original, the levels a little more tedious, and even the rewards for beating the hardest difficulty were a few steps below those of the first game.
