all games are not created equal

I had actually never played through RCR until earlier this year, but I think I've played it enough to get a good feel for it.  The hard part about this is going to be ignoring those great childhood memories of contra.

Even though Contra is a really simple game, I still find it fun to run through the game real quick.  You really feel like you're dominating everyone and even though it may be easy (with cheating), it's always fun to dominate.  And also, if you failed to do something, it was you're fault and you cant really blame the controls because they are very responsive.

In RCR, there was something that was just kinda clunky with the controls.  It was still fun, but sometimes, you overrun and hit a wall or try to punch someone and miss because you aren't in the same depth into the scene as the enemy.  It was also a simple beat-em-up game, but just didn't have that charm that Contra has.

The reason that I didn't care as much for Metroid is actually pretty simple.  Besides the fact that it's way too easy to get lost, I hate how you have absolutely no idea what might be a fake floor or fake wall until you try, making the entire game just trial and error. 

My girlfriend has played the crap out of Metroid and knows where pretty much EVERYTHING is in the game.  The only way to know all the is to have played the game a gazillion times, or use a guide.  Seriously, some of the power-ups you'll only find if you go around and shoot everything, which will wear out my thumb.

Contra is awesome cause it's mindless, frantic, and difficult without being impossible.  It is a game that will turn you into a masochist.
