One of the more recent installments of the sonic series is shadow the hedgehog. In the game the goal is ultimately to find out the origin of sonic's opposite, shadow the hedgehog. There is nothing wrong with creating a game with an in depth plot, but it is important for the sonic team to realize that the game needs to have some inkling of the the original sonic. Shadow the hedgehog is essentially a sonic themed third person shooter game. For some reason, giving sonic characters guns is a massive turn off for me. Sonic characters are supposed to roll up in balls and attack their enemies, not shoot them. Also, sonic seems to have had a recent explosion of characters, it seems you can't have a sonic game anymore without at least three new characters being introduced. As a game shadow the hedgehog isn't particularly fun either, I think its because its a shooting game based on a classic character, so the developers were hoping weapons and nostalgia would sell the game itself, so they really didn't focus on controls or combat systems too much. Even though the combat system of the original sonic consisted of rolling and jumping, the game made rolling and jumping a blast.

Super Mario Bros. Overall Comparison As much as I hate the hedgehog, I'd rather sit and play Sonic than the original 8-bit Mario adventure. Sonic did add collecting, bonus stages, bosses, vertically scaling stages, and more.

However, what I hate about Sonic is what many people love about it, and that's the speed. I love going fast and whizzing by as much as anyone, but it is impossible to react quick enough when you have pits and enemies coming and you're moving at 120 MPH. Plus, you end up passing by most of the level and missing rings and power-ups.
Also, I hate the physics that prevents you from walking up a simple small hill without a huge running start.
Still, it seems that SOMEONE likes the hedgehog because they keeping making more Sonic games, no matter how bad they are.last activity: 1/7/2009 9:01 am

Super Mario Bros was the first video game I experienced on the NES. but having a sega genesis at home I played sonic a lot more. Thus growing more fond of the game than mario. These games are both classics, both entertaining, but sonic had speed, was blue, and alot more colors than super mario bros.
I would spend hours and hours on Sonic The Hedgehog, and sonic the hedehog 2. The game kept me entertained and I liked the concept of running around in smooth tracks/lands collecting rings and stuff like that. After I learned about the emeralds I started to play sonic the hedgehog even more. Super sonic was hard to obtain (thats like friggin bonus content). Not to mention you dont truely beat the game unless you do collect all the emeralds. Unfortunatly I broke the game one day when I got real mad at the fact that it froze on the last level... last battle against dr.robotnic... yeah... first time I had ever gotten there and it froze... saddend me so.
Mario was something I played at my grandmas house. It was fun, but for some reason not as entertaining as Sonic was. nothing realy to it but to pass each level in a certain amount of time colecting coins mushrooms and fire flowers. And on the third level of each world fight a bowser.
I love both games, but I'm going to have to go with sonic on this one, despite the fact that the newer games have been somewhat of a fail.last activity: 1/4/2009 8:01 pm
