PS3 vs. xbox 360

Soo... one of my friends just offered to sell me his 80GB ps3, complete with: head set, one controller, battlefield: bad company, resistence 1, motorstorm, unreal tournament 3, uncharted, ratchet and clank, army of 2, rainbow six vegas 2, and mgs4 for $400.

I know (or at least i think?) this is an incredibly good price, and I have been agonizing over whether to get a ps3 or 360 for the past 8 months (I know I'm late to the game, but all of my friends have them so it was almost unnecessary..). I think I prefer the games that are out for ps3 right now, but the almost everyone has told me that a 360 is the way to go and I think it's interface is much friendlier.

What do you guys think? Should I take the deal?

  • Dang, that's a really good deal. 360 does have a lot of games, but it's really hard to pass up a deal like this.  And the games that it comes with are all good ones too.

The PS3 I think will be just a good a system as the 360 down the right, so it might just be worth it to invest in it now for that.

  • I'm with Justin, that's just such a great deal.  I personally am a huge 360 fan but even I think that the ps3 will surpass it once there are enough good games out.  Plus the blu ray capabilities alone make it worth it.

As far as interface goes, i think the 360 is has some flaws too.  I'm curious to see if some of those go away with the next update but if not I woudln't rank ps3 lower then 360 on interface...rather equally annoying in different ways.

  • I've had my PS3 for about a year and personally I love it.  I like not having to pay for X-Box live (which many will still tell me it's worth it.  I just don't think it's fair to have to pay to use your bandwidth to play games, even if you're hosting).  Sony has been making plenty of changes with their system software and are constantly improving.  They revamp of the Playstation Store was excellent and now there's trophy support.

Little Big Planet and MGS4 alone is worth it to me.  I personally think Sony is going to gain a lot more ground pretty quickly.  The 360 is good, but I'm happy with my DS3 controllers (with built in rechargeable batteries!)

  • I would say take it.

You've got LBP and MGS4 for the ps3, the fact your getting the head set, battlefield, resistance and unreal tournament in there only sweetens the deal. The 360 really doesn't have any great games out right now, seeing as CoD4 is out on the PS3. I also like the controller for the PS3 a lot better than the X box controller.

    • Yea, I love the PS3 controller.  The 360 one is ok, but the second you have to use the D-Pad, you might as well just jump out a window to save yourself from the pain.

  • I had the same problem awhile back. Then again back then there was like two games out for the PS3 (and only one any decent) and 360 had Gears out. So I got the 360. At the time I made the right choice, but now is a different story. Not to mention the built in Blu-ray is a bonus, seeing as though thats what you need for HD movies. I say go for it.

  • If you can get more than $400 for it on eBay, then definitely take it and either keep it or sell it for profit.  You can't lose. :)

To be fair I spent several years playing Diablo II, compared to the mere months I tried to play WoW. However, I think that pretty much sums up how I feel about each game. D2 has incredible replay value, whereas WoW is boring until you're probably...level 60 or higher; and by that point you've already invested a huge portion of time before you can really even start enjoying the game. I can easily recall feeling no sense of accomplishment wandering around in WoW. I can only hope that it does not influence D3 as much as it appears to already....

I feel like SMB2 is actually the strongest game in the entire franchise. It is the most enjoyable and has offered the most replay value. My biggest issue with Banana Blitz is the Wii Motion controls and the stage difficulty. First of all, the way the stages are set up it controls are too sensitive to complete certain tasks (and yes, I have been able to manage the new Super Monkey Ball release for iPhone/iPod touch). My biggest issue however, is the progression of the game. The do not make sense as a whole and it feels like completely different teams were working on different sets of stages without communicating at all. You'll come off of a difficult level and the next one will feel like it is as easy as something you played 20 stages ago, and then the next one will jump back to being difficult.
