  • System Shock 2 is better than Dead Space
    Overall Comparison
Survival horror as a genre is difficult to get right, but both of these games manage to nail it. In the end, though, System Shock 2 really keeps up a more tense and frightening atmosphere that keeps getting more twisted as the truth of the story begins to unfold in front of you. Dead Space's dismemberment feature is interesting and gives standard shooters some strategy, but after a while it starts to feel a little routine. RPG elements are better defined, there are a greater variety of enemies, and of course co-op is always a plus.

  • While I enjoyed Dead Space, I have to agree that System Shock left much more of a lasting impression.  It's too bad I can't get it to play on any of my current PC's anymore.
I remember first walking into that office, and then the entire place opens up wide with Whats-her-face speaking to you from a HUGE screen.  Man that was a moment I'll never forget.

    • Damn that part freaked me out so much, I can still remember the words she says as I was frantically running back and forth trying to figure out what in the hell was going on. For someone who had played the first game (I didn't), that must've been such a rush.
