Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage 
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Overall Comparison I own both of these, and loved 'em. But Spyro 2 I can play over and over again and still enjoy it. Crash 2 was just kinda "meh" after a while.
I love the open ended-ness of Spyro 2's levels. There were all sorts of smaller objectives, plus one main objective as well. I espcially enjoyed feeding fish to the tiki idol, who happened to have a specific kind of appetite.
Crash 2's levels were about as linear as it gets. Going through and getting the main crystals was all good and fine, but the real challenge was getting all the gems, which was a PAIN. This was especially true because of the unforgiving camera angle which only wants you to move forward, but sometimes forces you to run TOWARDS the camera with barely any distance to see in front of you.
Both games are very entertaining, but you just gotta love that snarky little dragon.
