    Overall Comparison
I figured it'd be appropriate to discuss the two portable editions of GTA that take place in Liberty City.

GTA:LCS really does play much like Vice City in terms of gameplay, with the ability to change outfits, ride bikes, have different types of weapons, and being able to just carjack everyone and drive around recklessly.

GTA:CW plays more similar to the GTA games of old, namely GTA2.  In fact, GTA:CW seems like a cross between GTA2 and GTA4.  You don't have flying vehicles, and you can't change your outfits, but it doesn't matter because you have just a top-down view anyhow, and it works wonderfully.
CW makes some very interesting uses of the touch screen, and they are usually pretty practical.  If you drive your car into the ocean, you have to tap on the windshield to bust out (yes you can swim).  If you try to steal a parked car, you'll likely have to hotwire it using one of varies methods.

Choosing between these two games is really a matter of taste.  Honestly sometimes I can be in the mood for either, but I do enjoy not worrying about loading times on CW, and it's also a nice change of pace from the other GTA games.  I also appreciate that CW doesn't half-arse the violence and other content, despite being on a very kid-friendly handheld.

  • I've been wondering about Chinatown Wars.  Liberty City Stories was pretty fun from what I remember, but I think I didn't like the fact that it tried to be the PS2 game on a handheld.  When it's that similar, it's hard not to compare it to the real version and wish you were playing that instead.

I'm glad that Chinatown Wars went back to the GTA roots and did it well.
