  • Wii Sports Resort is better than Wii Sports
    Overall Comparison
I definitely didn't forsee myself picking THIS up on day one, but I stumbled across it today, and Wii Sports Resort is very good.

My main complaint with the first Wii Sports was that there wasn't much to do.  It mostly felt like a tech demo.  Thankfully, Wii Sports Resort doesn't feel THAT much like a tech demo.

Obviously, the biggest advantage for Resort is the Wii Motion Plus.  I honestly didn't expect that much of a difference, but it's very surprising at how much precision it adds.  And you get to test this difference too, as Resort includes the old golf and bowling, only this time utilizing the WM+.  Tennis was replaced with table tennis, and boxing is replaced more or less with swordplay.
Bowling is always a favorite with the original Wii Sports, and the WM+ makes it feel new again.  Namely, it's MUCH easier to add curve to your ball, allowing you to make those precision movements needed to strike every time.
Same goes for golf.  Now, the twist in your wrist will make a difference as you swing, causing your ball to draw or fade.

Resort also adds plenty of new games as well, such as frisbee (my personal fav), canoeing, airplay (skydiving and airplane-ing-ness), and wakeboarding, to name a few.
Many of these concepts have been done already in countless other minigame-collections, such as Mario Party or WarioWare.  But like I said, WM+ makes all the difference in the world.

Obviously Resort is a good purchase.  Obviously Resort wins simply due to the fact that it's everything Wii Sports was, plus much much more.  It gave me an excuse to dust off my Wii, which I haven't done in months.

  • Table tennis with the M+ sounds sweet.  I remeber seeing it in the Wii Play pack and was really disappointed to hear that it wasn't fun.  Also, Table Tennis by Rockstar for the Wii was kinda disappointing too.  Maybe the M+ will restart the development of table tennis games!

Wii Sports was definitely a tech demo, but still a pretty fun one.   I think Resort is still a tech demo, just with more advanced technology.  Gotta pick that up when I have a chance.

    • Yeah, I mean resort is pretty much a tech demo too, but they put a lot more thought into the actions and gameplay to make it more enjoyable.
For example, I thought baseball in Wii Sports was incredibly weak, but Basketball in Resort is a lot better.  You can shoot, pass, dribble, steal, and block shots.  It's still not perfect, but definitely improved.

        • The game with WM+ is $50.  I think it's well worth it.
