Weeeeell, since I got my R4 for my DS, I went online and found a torrent for the first 3000 DS games that were released in the English language, which includes US and Europe. Now I have access to a server thats connected into a 14 Gb line that I can use to download torrents super quick. So 14 GB of DS ROMS was going to take me just 2 days to download. Pretty sweet, right?
It was halfway done yesterday, and the server owner gets an e-mail from the agents to JK Rowling, cause they believed that the files I was downloading included Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In truth, the DS ROM for the game was being downloaded, not the book (obviously), so I'm sure they were just searching for keywords.
ANYWAY, I had to delete the file, my user account on the server gets deleted (the server owner is actually my gf's brother, so he'll just set me up with another account sometime later), and now no one is downloading torrents like that for a while.
Granted the heat probably came to that server due to the mass amount of traffic, but if you think no one is watching, you are WRONG! I may post the e-mail on a journal entry somewhere for everyone's pleasure.
I am on Big Brother's Radar
I'll be the first to admit that I have obtained software illegally fairly often. Now that I have a nice paying job I don't do it nearly as much, but sometimes I still indulge in older software that I don't feel like paying 20 bucks for. Shame on me, I know.Weeeeell, since I got my R4 for my DS, I went online and found a torrent for the first 3000 DS games that were released in the English language, which includes US and Europe. One thing though. It sounds like this server was able to be found just by searching for it. Are you able to search the contents of the server without having an account?
Anyway, I'll just post the e-mail here, and block out any potentially private info. I just kinda want to make people aware of stuff like this, because you can attract attention for the oddest thing when you're pirating. I know people who want to pirate are going to anyway, just like teens with their labidos.

Obviously, I don't condone illegal filesharing, etc. etc. ad nauseum. But I do have magic knowledge about it.
Peer Guardian lets you block your computer from communicating with IPs known to be owned by the RIAA/MPAA, educational/government institutions, etc. This isn't to prevent being caught since they can easily register new IPs every day. I just recommend using it so they get shitty download rates on that oh-so-legal software we're sharing. In my opinion, they deserve it.
He actually uses torrents to download a lot of legitimate software, such as Linux distros and the like.
In any case, nothing really happened as a result, but we're just holding off on torrent downloading for now.
