Now, whats funny is a lot of people seem to be really cheezed off by this. May I ask, why?
Hmm, maybe to answer this, we should refer to how Wikipedia defines a beta release:
""Beta" is a nickname for software which has passed the alpha testing stage of development and has been released to users for software testing before its official release. It is the prototype of the software that is released to the public. Beta testing allows the software to undergo usability testing with users who provide feedback, so that any malfunctions these users find in the software can be reported to the developers and fixed. Beta software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss."
Hmm, so perhaps a beta release WON'T WORK. Ok, so now knowing this, should people complain when a beta doesn't work?
I think gamers are upset cause they want to play, and not work. However, this is the exact kind of thing professional beta testers go through. This is an MMO. Of course they need to test server capability and reliability. Right now, they aren't, simply put.
Let's say I put together a car from scratch. I look it over and all the parts look good. Everything looks connected ok. Can I truthfully say that it's going to run just fine? No, I gotta turn it on first.
I'm rambling now, but it's just incredibly frustrating when I want to DISCUSS issues and get a mature conversation in, but I hear people claiming that Cryptic "needs to get their act together". It's as if people think the developers are just sitting on their butts twiddling their thumbs. It's sad about the expectations that people have come to have concerning things like this.
