It's true, all the time if we ended up in the same room, everyone would be talking about WoW, babbling about raids and instances and leveling up your protection talents and being only 200 gold away from getting your flying mount and blahblahblahblahBLAH!!!
So I play now, and it's somewhat enjoyable I guess, but once I hit level 30, it seriously just started to feel like work. I even bought Lich King and I had to ask myself "Why?". I haven't even made it to Outland yet, which is essentially where the first expansion starts. I never feel good when I'm playing the game unless my friends are there, which is tough cause they're all nearly maxed on their levels and I'm not even halfway there.
I also try to disown myself from the general WoW community. It's pretty irritating to me that as soon as a WoW players discovers that you play, suddenly the conversation for the next 25 minutes is about what server you play on, what class and race you are, what level you've hit, and where and how you should quest and level up.
Personally, I don't give a crap if you can hit level 80 in less than two weeks, if you have the best PvP gear, or if you have the most DPS on your server. It's not interesting because it's not real! It's not real life, it's not who you really are, and I'm certainly feeling no connection to you as a person because we play on the same server.
So there. Rant over. And just in case some of you are curious, I guess I'll share:
My chars name is Jipjap. He's a level 39 Orc Warrior on the Perenolde server. I spend most my talents in Fury and I also enjoy running around with no pants.
I'm a WoW player, but not like that
I started playing WoW around September for the first time. And it's definitely not something I'm proud of. People never believe me, but I only play for the social interaction. No, not to interact with random jerk-offs all over the country, but to play online with my girlfriend, her brothers, and my roommate. It's true, all the time if we ended up in the same room, everyone would be talking about WoW, babbling about raids and instances and leveling up your protection talents and being only 200 gold away from getting your flying mount and blahblahblahblahBLAH!!!

I tried playing WoW a couple of times, through free trials, I'm cheep like that. But it really didn't interest me, it felt like every other MMO I've ever played..the only difference I really liked was that you could jump...other than that It felt just as repetitive as the other ones..and I only made it to level 10.
So all-in-all the game doesn't seem that spectacular, I don't mind the cartoony graphics, I like those..but the constan't having to FIGHT x number of things to get something that ALL should have..but only few do, or having to kill x number of things to clear out a place for someone to go...its REDUNDANT. I don't hate hardcore or NON hardcore WoW players for their addictions or pass-times..its just not really something I could get into.
It just amazes me how people get sucked in so deeply to this thing. Not only that, but how personally involved they are, to the point that they will get seriously upset or defensive if you dis their character or whatnot.
I play cause it's a timekiller, but each passing month it gets harder and harder for me to justify that $15 a month.
The strange part is that while I was playing, it was actually fun. It had you doing simple things in order to gain levels or whatever else, and that made me feel good. It was "fun" to run around collecting kingsblood and then selling it at the auctionhouse because some new quest or something needed it.
The social thing was a big part of it. I would have never started if it wasn't for my friend. He already had an account and suggested that I play. I always wanted to give it a shot, but had no one to join me. I tried to have a friend back at college start up an account too after I had gotten to level 60, but there were many other more fun things to do in real life, like sit around and watch college football =P
