Does anyone know where I can still get a nes/snes? I've always wanted one, but I got into gaming when I was like 4, a year or so too late to actually get one (and I opted for the Genesis). I have an inherent mistrust for people on E bay, so if there was like an actual store that sold them that anyone knew of, that would be cool.

  • Well, there is always the option of just playing older games on an emulator on your computer.  But as for getting the actual original console, the only option i know of is Ebay.  You might be able to find an ebay store that specializes in old consoles and that might be a good way to go.  They usually have a good number of prior transactions.

  • Try calling up a bunch of pre-owned gaming shops.  It wouldn't hurt to try the pre-owned music shops in your area as well.  90% of them won't have anything, but there's a shop in town here that has a bunch of used games, and at least one of every system since NES.  The NES and SNES are running about $40.  That may seem steep, but the going price for them was about $30 5 years ago, so it'll only be going up.

  • Also, don't ever rule out local pawn shops.  Here in Springfield, MO, we have a couple Vintage Stock locations, which is a cool trade shop for games, comics, cards, etc.  They always seem to have stuff like that.  Where's your area?

    • Memphis TN, I'm sure there are pawn shops around here...but memphis is either the first or second largest violent crime capitol in the world. Pawn shops just seem like a bad idea around here. Vintage stores on the other hand I'm not sure about, I'll have to check that out because I collect vinyl also.

Kingdom of loathing, for those of you who haven't heard of it is a browser based RPG (if you do play, my name is Zmonge, feel free to look me up and message me) For those of you who haven't heard of World of Warcraft...you astonish me. Kingdom of loathing is probably one of the greatest, most underrated games in the world. Everything in the game is making fun of something or just totally ridiculous (i.e. saber toothed lime). Kol (Kingdom of Loathing from here on out) Is a point and click adventure game, so those of you looking to run around vast worlds may not be into this game, that said, just like in WoW as you gain experience you unlock new areas. There is a clan system and a general chat system, so there is some actual social interaction. Instead of going on long tedious pointless quests like in WoW, Kingdom of Loathing has a quest system in place that makes it feel as if you are actually doing something almost all of the time. If you've got some spare time and your looking for a good RPG check out KoL, if you play wow...drop it and play KoL.

Mario Kart 64 was a landmark in racing games everywhere. I like the fact double dash allowed you to chose your cart and two people, adding a new strategic element, but I really liked the levels in Mario Kart 64 better. Double dash doesn't do well in translating the levels over in my opinion. Wario's old level was better, The previous yoshi's island was better, the previous toad's turnpike was better, and the previous rainbow road was better. Also, Double Dash is missing moo moo farms, my favorite level EVER!

The original sonic sidescroller for the Genesis is infinitely better than its modern counterparts. One of the more recent installments of the sonic series is shadow the hedgehog. In the game the goal is ultimately to find out the origin of sonic's opposite, shadow the hedgehog. There is nothing wrong with creating a game with an in depth plot, but it is important for the sonic team to realize that the game needs to have some inkling of the the original sonic. Shadow the hedgehog is essentially a sonic themed third person shooter game. For some reason, giving sonic characters guns is a massive turn off for me. Sonic characters are supposed to roll up in balls and attack their enemies, not shoot them. Also, sonic seems to have had a recent explosion of characters, it seems you can't have a sonic game anymore without at least three new characters being introduced. As a game shadow the hedgehog isn't particularly fun either, I think its because its a shooting game based on a classic character, so the developers were hoping weapons and nostalgia would sell the game itself, so they really didn't focus on controls or combat systems too much. Even though the combat system of the original sonic consisted of rolling and jumping, the game made rolling and jumping a blast.

Alright, I'm an avid player of both brawl and melee, I absolutely love the entire smash brothers trilogy, however I've got to say melee is better than brawl. Brawl has a lot of cool new features, items, and levels, but it doesn't outweigh the things that were taken away. Brawl is missing several key elements that made Melee so enjoyable. The thing that has bothered me most is the absence of bonuses at the end of a round, rendering bonus matches impossible. Another thing that I liked better about melee was the coin/trophy system. The coin cap in brawl has been raised from 999 in melee to 9999, which is an utterly ridiculous amount. The game you have to play to earn trophies also bothers me, I much preferred the lotto, it was much more suspenseful. Brawl's largest flaw however, is that the items in the games are much too overpowered. Either you have to play with all the items off, or a very select few to make games fair battles, as opposed to who can get to the items first. Also, my former favorite character (ganadorf), was nerfed so that he is ridiculously slow now, it is impossible to get an attack of with him. The target smash system also is fairly annoying, The fact that every character has the same set of targets, as opposed to a custom level that tests the players ability to use the character annoys me. I will give brawl the credit it deserves for the subspace emissary though, it is a great adventure mode, especially to hang out with a friend and play, the sticker system also adds a whole new element to that game that is extremely fun. As a whole though, melee is a better game than brawl.
