RIP Xbox 360 ~Feb. 08- April 09~

Today is the worst day ever...My 360 went red ring due to the new Mandatory Update today...As far as I know my 360 survived one of the longest periods..My friend had his 3 days before it went red ring...and another friend had to get his de-red ringed 4 times in that same year and two months...so mine had out lived any.. at least in this town.

It died peaceful...with one port flashing (for those that aren't familiar with the RRoD...one port flashing is the worst...HARDWARE FAILURE) and that black error message..it was terrible... :( My gaming family..those who would understand this loss and have faced things like it..let us have a moment of silence for this "possibly" dead 360 (my thing is..if Mircosoft doesn't fix it... then I'm going strictly Sony...but that was my ONLY next gen system)

NOT ONLY was that my only next gen system...I have really no other systems to use...I mean..sure I have reg. XBOX and ps2 and stuff..but those aren't near as glorifying now...I've beat all the games i own..so its redundant...AND this computer is a make shift because it got tore up in the mail..so I cant even properly COMPUTER game..:(

My 360 has been doing this really crappy green and red streaks through the screen thing.  The only way to fix it is to wrap a towel around the thing and force it to overheat.  This *apparently* helps form a better surface between the GPU/CPU and the underside of the board or something?  I don't really know and it seems totally silly that Microsoft would have such a crappy product, but it seems to work.

Is your 360 still under warranty?

  • Thats weird...forcing it to over heat sounds a BIT dangerous for everything involved in said system..but whatever helps I guess...

No..:( My dad was careless enough to NOT heed my warnings and get a warranty, but by a year and 2 months it would have expired already..good news I received though is that Microsoft will fix it if I just learn how to send it in..lol

    • wow, you'd think Microsoft would love their customers enough to give them at least a lifetime warranty. with my XFX card that I'm sending back in to get repaired has a double life time warranty that comes with any purchase of XFX products.

  • Oh well I got a hold of them via email..I talked to them, they gave me possible fixes (none of which worked)..so I said I'd send it in..and they said my warranty only lasted a year UNLESS it was a 3 port red ring..THEN it would be 3 years...so i'd have to pay them 100 bucks, and that just isn't gonna fly...SO i tried over heating it..but my system turns itself off if it over heats..:(

    • The overheating thing is only good for the 3ring thing or issues stemming from GPU/CPU issues.  Yours sounds a little different from the issues I had, so the overheating thing might not work.

    • I would tell them that it IS the red rings of death and then send it in and if they say different, just say "But it wasn't doing that before I sent it to you!"

Honestly, (and no one hate me for this), I've worked my way around customer service like that before.  A buddy of mine accidentally dropped a backback which had both his Wii and a bottle of Vodka (we were having a party that night).  Vodka gets all over the Wii and it doesn't work.

So, I call customer service for him and say "Yeah, the Wii just stopped working, it won't turn on".  Claimed that I used all the cables from my own Wii and it still wouldn't work, so they just took it and sent him a refurbished one.  Unethical?  Sure.  Effective?  You bet!

      • I'm not very good at social engineering, so I couldn't pull it off.  I could maybe do it in a series of emails, but definitely not on the phone.  I say if you can pull it off, go for it!

        • I work in IT, and I worked telephone customer service before then, so I guess it comes naturally to me.  I guarantee that the people on the phone could care less what the issue is, as long as they get you off the phone.

      • Stone...I could never hate you for being smart and manipulative..that's my thing to..so i congratulate you, I've thought about it.. but I'm just not so sure...(not about the cheating customer service..cause its THEIR fault in the first place) but i'm not so sure I wanna waste my time like that..but if it was the RRoD it has a 3 year warranty right?

@Justin, the overheating thing WOULD work..(i watched a view videos to make sure)..but my system sets itself to shut off if it gets close to over heating...so its never actually made it far enough to over heat. :(

I really hate to betray MK like this, but I had to go with Street Fighter. The first few Mortal Kombat games didn't need 'depth' per se , it was meant just to be a fighting game, so all it really needed was arcade mode. Don't get me wrong I really do love story lines and story modes, I tend to get involved with the characters, its how I work, but at that time I really felt like MK didn't need one.

Street Fighter was a great game, it posessed SOME SORT of story mode, even though really it was just characters talking their way into a fight... but that doesn't matter.

The greater difference is it wasn't EASY..in the first few MK games all you really had to do was click 1 button and the other person wouldn't get a chance! Though the fatalities were EXTREMELY hard to figure out on your own, I suppose that was the attempted balance.

WIth Street Fighter however, you really did require more than a little luck, it required a general since of skill, I mean...you could still haduken your way to victory, but the other person still had a chance.

I never thought I'd say this but what the pokemon games DIDN'T need was better graphics, that took away the authentic feel of the game, not to mention they need to stop making new pokemon.. I mean...how can you 'catch 'em all' if they keep making more...And the new pokemon names are generic, unoriginal, and lazy..I mean..Half of the time it looks like they put two descriptive words together...
I feel pretty passionate about this one...because being a little kid when pokemon came out gave me a strong since of pride for the orginials and the game...So maybe I'm biased..but I truely believe the orginals were 10 fold the new ones..(Pretty much past johto) were bad (Though, being as hypocritical as I am..I'm playing Pokemon Diamond currently..just because DS doesn't read past advance..and I want to play a pokemon game..so I'm not TOO picky right now :D)

Bioshock was truly one of the most epic survival games I've played, everything about it screamed different, the depth of the storyline, and the setting, an underwater utopia set in the 50's,c'mon, who thinks of that? The random mini-games (for hacking and such) really kept you entertained as well , the game play, giving you a series of physical enhancements, despite the fact that fire and electricity are common, really had different ideas as well, and, though this isn't as innovative, I loved how your choice to save or kill the little sisters affected the end.

F.E.A.R was just another attempted pop up scare in my opinion, giving pretty gruesome depections to try to envoke fear, when in reality the game wasn't near as worth the hype of how scary it was. I love gruesome, but I don't like how it tried to use that as really the only scare tactic in the game. In my opinion the storyline was a bit etchy to follow as well, and not nearly as entrancing enviroment wise as Bioshock, it all felt like most shooters, through warehouses and things like that. The game play was pretty bland, not really appealing to anything different than normal shooter games.

Even though Bioshock is a single player game, and I couldn't see it as anything else, could play it over and over, for hours on end.

Call of Duty 4 was the first game that Infinity ward had published since selling it to Treyarch for CoD3, and I have to say, they did a great job at the come back, not only did the break the expectations of war games to be about World War 2, they broke the bounds that Treyarch had done with Call of Duty 1-3 and World at War.
The game play on both is very similar, but what really catches my eye about CoD4 is the modern day setting, not to mention it was the first of the series to be rated M finally having enough captivation and realism to deserve that title. I also like the maps and online multiplayer.
Call of Duty 4 began many things, such as the shooting through walls, and the perks and leveling system.
However, don't get me wrong, World at War is fun, especially the added feature of blowing people apart and getting to see it happen, certainly making it more graphic.
