Metal Gear Solid Overall Comparison First off, both of these games are incredible. However, I think I could always go back and replay FF7 and enjoy it. There are so many different aspects of that game. MGS is an awesome action game, but doesn't have that replay value and complexity that FF7 has.
Sorry MGS, you're awesome, but just not as awesome as FF7.

I disagree. While yes, both are great, Final Fantasy VII was essentially the growth of the jRPG. It took a fairly standard "Save the World" plot and made it cinematic. However, Metal Gear Solid created an entire genre, creating from scratch multiple aspects of the stealth genre that are still used today.
Also no one can out-badass Snake.
Thief also came out around the same time as MGS. That game had a ton of the stealth stuff going on, but I just couldn't make myself play it. It was just too much about being stealthy.
