For one, there is a gold trail that leads you to your next quest. It is almost always very slow to appear and sometimes, when you're running fast, you can't tell which way to go because the path hasn't been calculated yet.
Also, as you kill enemies, they drop all these little orbs that you collect. The only problem is that when there are a bunch of them on the screen, the game really really slows down. I think this is because each orb has its own physics and its own gravity (so that it can combine with other orbs), so when there are a lot of them, there are a lot of calculations. This may not be the case, but it sure did seem like it.
"Battling" for me consisted of hitting the attack button over and over again until every bad thing on the screen was dead. If there were a bunch of enemies surrounding me, I would charge up a will spell and cast it on all of them. There was almost no skill involved in fighting.
Now, look at these reviews. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/fable2. Most of those reviews seem to be beaming with how great the game is. I must have missed something, because this game was not nearly as good as all the reviews made it out to be.
Granted, the game was kinda fun, but just had absolutely no depth. Someone hates you? Play the lute for them. Not pure enough? Donate money to the temple. Simple stuff. It was fun to play though, but after I was done, I felt like I hadn't really done anything and walked away with an empty experience.
The More I Think About It
the more I feel that Fable 2 really wasn't that great of a game. The storyline was pathetic and you didn't care about any of the characters, the voice acting was annoying and there were a lot of little nuisances in the game that didn't help. For one, there is a gold trail that leads you to your next quest. Certainly, it had big shoes to fill. The original was a great and innovative game. But, as sequels often do, it failed to live up to its predicessor. My only hope is that they focus on gameplay and story rather than gimmicks next time around.
But its a good little game =) worth the price tag.
