Chrono Trigger 
Final Fantasy 2 Overall Comparison Chrono Trigger is, in my opinion, the best game of all time. It combines great game play with great story line. This rarely occurs in the more recent string of RPGs. Also, there is something to be said for the replayability. I have played through Chrono Trigger several times, each time in a different direction with different results. You just don't see those kinds of options anymore. Oblivion has endless options with little to no story and Mass Effect has a great story with ultimately few options. No game has match Chrono Trigger.

i played chrono trigger a little while back on an emulator. sad part is that i cant remember anything about the story =( i also had to play it without sound because something funky was happening with my emulator and save states.
What about FF2? Have you played that one through? Definately worth a whirl.
i think i started to at one point, but all this japanese version vs american version numbers thing got really confusing. I think i was playing the american 2, but i have no clue. there were little mechs and crap at the very beginning.
